Comprehensive Sexuality Education
Knowledge and accessible resources are key to safeguarding the health of our youth.
Dance4Life believes that providing adolescents with holistic comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is the best way to ensure that they make the right decisions for their physical and mental wellbeing as they go through the tumultuous transformation of puberty.
We introduce our programming primarily in 3rd form (13-14 years of age), but occasionally we begin in 2nd form (12-13 years of age) or extend into 4th form (14-15 years of age).
Our CSE programme is particularly effective due to our position as external facilitators. This allows for safe and open dialogue, where students feel free to discuss sexuality without compromising their student-teacher relationship, and teachers are not placed in difficult roles where they must discuss subjects they feel uncomfortable with. For most teaching staff, their educational workload is a barrier to prioritising sexuality education.
We make a point to make sure that our CSE programme is up-to-date by being informed by the latest research, as well as the latest developments in best practice delivery of CSE. We also maintain dialogue and exchange of information with relevant institutions such as the Barbados Family Planning Association and the Ministry of Health.
